Client & server-side mods have been updated. If you are playing ont he cinnamon server, updating your modpack is compulsory.

Skills

  • Updated to Puffish Skills 0.12
  • Added nice little pixellated background images to skill trees
    • Feel free to try and guess which games they come from!
  • Fixed an issue in the archery skill tree that would boost arrow velocity by 200% instead of 20%
  • Bow XP is now obtained at the same speed as warrior weapon XP
    • Getting kills with bows used to give 50% more XP for the ranger skill tree, but with how powerful bows can get, I think this was an unnecessary buff and I am now removing it.

Death and respawn

  • Death is now handled entirely by the You're in Grave Danger mod.
    • Previously it was handled by one of the optional Vanilla Refresh features.
    • [server] It is no longer necessary to manually update the keepinventory gamerule
  • When you die, instead of dropping a soul, you now drop a gravestone with your name on it.
  • This works even when you die from falling in the void or burning in lava
  • The gravestone will keep your items safely for 30 minutes, after which it will self destruct and your items will drop on the ground (or in the void, or in lava, you get the point)
  • To get your items back simply right-click the gravestone.
  • When you respawn, you will get a speed debuff for 1 minute
  • Players will respawn with less health and stamina
    • Both of these changes are made to hinder players who die 30 times in the span of 10 minutes by making each death take a little more time.
  • Same as souls, gravestones will NOT store XP, which will be completely lost on death
  • Other players will not be able to steal from your gravestones, however once it has self destructed, items on the floor are fair game.

Traveler's Backpack & Keybindings update

  • The Traveler's Backpack mod was added
  • You will be able obtain your own backpack through crafting, trading, and other means.
  • To equip the backpack, place it in your back slot
  • Once it is equipped, you will be able to press B at any time to access the backpack UI.
  • This means that the create waypoint keybinding has been switched from B to U.
  • If you have more than one backpack in your inventory you will get slowed.
  • Backpacks will also be unequiped upon dying and retrieved when right-clicking your gravestone.

Mod updates

  • Create: Steam & Rail received two major patches that should fix a host of issues
  • MIAPI has been updated, which should fix a serious crash issue that was encountered by some players

  • Disabled temperature changes from the Fabric Seasons mod
    • This really did not fit well with distant horizons (or the map) as the snow/ice was only generated directly around players in winter
  • Added Distant Horizons as a link instead of hard-including it in the modpack
    • This means that there should no longer be a need for the server-only version

Client Side Update (non-compulsory but recommended)

  • Updated Distant Horizons from 2.0.2 to 2.0.3
    • This should result in significant performance gains and memory usage reduction
    • WARNING: THIS WILL REQUIRE YOU TO RE-GENERATE DH LODs
  • Replaced hard-included copy of the Iris 1.7 dev build with the stable 1.7 version

Balancing

  • Luck obtained from skills reduced from 0.5 to 0.25
    • This seemed to be heavily impacting Lootr chests, much more than I thought it would.

Skills

  • Significantly lowered XP gains for warrior & explorer skill trees
    • Warrior tree now gets half the XP for every kill
    • Explorers now need to get 15 chests for one level instead of 6. This is to account for POIs (like villages) with a very large number of chests.
  • Warrior skill tree can now be levelled up by getting kills with:
    • Swords
    • Pickaxes
    • Axes
    • Shovels
    • Great Hammers (Paladins)
    • Maces (Paladins)
  • Ranger skill tree can now be levelled up by getting kills with:
    • Bows
    • Knives (+100% XP)
    • Spears
  • The explorer skill tree nodes that gave +5% movement speed now instead give +3% sprint speed
    • The explorer skill tree nodes that gave +10% movement speed still give +10% movement speed
    • I did not expect the speed buff to be this significant, and that is my bad.
  • Additional ranged damage nodes gave 80% extra damage per node instead of the intended 8%.
    • This was obviously a bug and has now been corrected.
  • Vampiric Tendencies skill modified:
    • Regen penalty lessened (-80% -> -50%)
    • Added damage penalty (0% -> -10%)
      • The regen penalty was just way too much for the skill to be worthwhile so I lessened it significantly and added a less handicapping drawback

Difficulty Balancing

  • Baby skeletons have been disabled
  • Random speed buffs have been removed from drowned
  • Undead no longer heal from their attacks

  • Fixed an issue with the ranger skill tree making arrows deal no damage
  • Fixed an issue with shader clouds being too low
  • Removed Chunks Fade In because it makes no sense to keep it when DH is included
  • Made Spawn Animations spawn mobs at a minimum distance of 40 blocks instead of 20 (the default of the mod)

  • Moved from Farmer's Delight Fabric to Farmer's Delight Refabricated
    • This was forced by an update to Create: Slice & Dice
  • Removed "release" version of Iris from modpack
    • Will re-add it when Iris 1.7 officially releases.
  • Disabled distant Generation with Distant Horizons to prevent a known issue.
  • Rebalanced spread of structures:
    • Made towers of the wild spread at normal intervals,
    • Tidal Towns spread 7x more (so 7x rarer),
    • all other structures will be spread 30% more
  • Unless otherwise specified here, updated all mods to latest

Photon Shaders

  • Made clouds appear higher by default
    • They used to be able to completely block your sight until I made this change
  • Added a LOT of custom lighting and reflecting effects, especially for custom (modded) blocks, see more about this here

Default options changes

  • Made default render distance be 9 instead of 10
    • This should ease the burden on lower-end machines. Feel free to lower it even more if needed.

  • Rebalanced puffish skills skills
    • Mainly buffed damage outputs of both ranger & warrior skill trees to be on par with each other
    • Buffed water/lava swim speed. (10->20% each node)
    • Buffed lung capacity (10->20% each node)
  • Fixed Addicted skill which was not working as intended
  • Truly Modular Knives & Daggers now give Ranger XP
  • Made default render distance be 10 chunks
    • This will lessen the impact of Distant Horizons on lower end machines.

  • Finished the Pufferfish Skill configuration (making skill trees)
    • From now on there will be small adjustments made for balancing purposes but no major changes.
  • Made Photon the default shaderpack
  • Made Photon a modrinth dl link instead of including it as a file in the modpack (this was due to it not being marked as 1.20.1 compatible)
  • Distant Horizons is included in this beta version as tests went well in the alpha version
  • Removed Obscure API
    • This was used for extra attributes but is no longer used.
  • Removed Extra RPG Attributes
    • Same reason as above (and was also a depency for spellblades, which was removed as well.)
  • Removed Spellblades and such
    • They were very (too) powerful and available in early game-accessible chests, which was a big no no for me
  • Removed unused resource packs
  • Added Sparse Structures config
    • This should make structures slightly less sparse
    • Except for tidal villages, which should be MUCH sparser

  • Added Enchantment Descriptions
  • Added SIHYWTCAMD (difficulty mod)
    • With all the extra tools players will have at their disposal, I wanted to level the playing field a bit.
    • This mod adds many small things to enemies to make them at minimum unexpected and at best dangerous.
  • Removed Soulslike Weaponry
    • It simply added too many things and wasn't focused enough. It added the weapons but also ores, bosses, a LOT of useless keybindings..
    • The weapons were also ridiculously powerful.
  • Overhauled warrior and ranger puffish skills
    • The skill trees are not done, only the skills, and I am open to adding more variety if you have any good ideas!

Modpack status

I now feel safe to set this version as beta and feature it on MR. All major bugs have been fixed and the only feature I really want to add that is still missing -Distant Horizons compatibility- will be added in the coming weeks.

New

  • Soulslike Weaponry was added, which adds new weapons and bosses
  • Create Copycats was added to give players more freedom with copycats

Changes

  • Sound Physics Remastered has been removed from the modpack.
    • This is due to it now being officially incompatible with Create.
  • Tree leaves that were bushy due to Stay True are now no longer bushy.
    • Players who prefer maximum bushiness may re-enable bushy leaves by removing the nobushy resource pack.

Mod updates

  • Create: Steam & rails received a major update, 1.6. Go check it out on their page.
  • Various other mods were also updated (Create, Tectonic...)

Fixes

  • The issue with the skills menu is finally fixed!
    • You can now purchase skills by pressing K as intended.
